The Streets of Nuremberg go sub sea this time. I wanted to share some images I took while snorkeling with my kids on the Spiaggia del Relitto, the Relict Beach, near the village of Pomonte on the Italian Island of Elba. Spending some of my many airline miles, I recently treated myself to a Olympus Tough TG-4, a shock- & waterproof adventure cam from Olympus, featuring a 4X wide-angle optical zoom with fast f2.0 high speed lens and a 16MP BSI CMOS Sensor with RAW Capture. It is waterproof to depths of 50 feet, freeze proof to 14 degrees F, shockproof to 7 feet and crushproof to 220 lb, It also shoots 1080P HD video.
What better opportunity to try out its underwater capabilities during our recent vacation on Elba while going snorkeling with my two teenage kids over a shipwreck that lies close to the shore near the village of Pomonte. The images are all jpgs out of cam without any post processing.
The wreck is that of the 65m Freighter “Elviscot” that, with a load of timber, run aground on the rocks of Ogliera near the village of Pomonte on Isola d’Elba on the night of January 10th 1972. The crew was rescued and the ship later sunk, now resting on sandy ground in a depth of about 10 -16 meters. Having never seen a real shipwreck that was quite an exiting snorkeling/diving trip. Using the flippers it takes about 10 minutes of swimming to reach the wreck, starting from Pomonte’s Spiaggia del Relitto. The water is absolutely amazing, crystal clear with lots of fish to be seen. My two kids had a blast as did I. But check out the photos yourself!
I’m definitely happy with the images from the TG-4. The IQ and colors of the underwater seascape a quite amazing. If you have more questions regarding the cam or the location let me know.

Thanks 😀! I must admit though it is a lot of hit and miss. Visibility through fogged up diving glasses, being thrown around by wave movement while snorkeling is a bit of a challenge, although the results are really fun! My kids love them and they have a blast with the little camera themselves, especially shooting videos of their clumsy dad 😎
I can imagine there are challenges lol but they can still be fun. 😉
