On the Streets of Portland again

On Target | Portland | 2017

Back in the Rose City, staying once more at the Heathman Hotel on Portland’s Broadway. The week was all work without as much as a chance to touch my camera, but Friday night I took the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the mZuiko 12-40mm F/2.8 along while going to the Target supermarket in Morrison Street to by myself some basic supplies (there is just no way eating out every night on a two-week business trip). The above photo I took in front of one of the shop windows of the Target. I loved the lady boxer, positioned myself at the rail of the city train station tin my back and then it was just a matter of the right person walking by. I took the image at 1/80 sec @ f/5 and ISO 1000 with 30mm focal length. For a fe more photos continue after the jump…

Pizza ? | Portland | 2017

Just across from the Target in 10th Avenue is a square with lots of the famous Portland Food Carts. Here I shot the Pizza Boy, image specs are 1/50 sec @ f/4.5 and ISO 1600 with 40mm focal length.

Portland is full of great mural art, the girl overseeing the parking I found at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Stark Street. The days of torrential train paid off with leaving nice puddles to use for reflections. Image specs are 1/6 sec at f/2.8 and ISO 1600. It was pretty dark, so I needed to shoot wide open with this low shutter speed to get some light in the photo.

Night Drive | Portland | 2017

At the corner of 10th Avenue and Morrison Street is this colorful Mexican Restaurant providing a great background to shoot light trails of the passing traffic, again the wet streets  (it was still raining as it was the whole week) reflecting nicely. Image specs are 1/8 sec @ f/2.8 and ISO 250 with 26mm focal length.

I shot more few nice images that evening, but I need to save them to post during next week when the job that pays the bills once more ties me to the office and I have no opportunity to go out with the cam.

Have a great Sunday!

Marcus

  1. ‘If you can smell the street by looking at the photo, it’s a street photograph. ‘ said Bruce Gilden. These are definitely street photos and the quality is really high!

    1. Danke schön 🙂 Die immer wieder neue Motivsuche, das Herausarbeiten der Eigenheiten einer Stadt sind ja das Wunderbare an der Fotografie. Und es ist so aufwandsarm, einfach loslaufen und gucken!

    1. Thanks, Marion, again this means so much. My Sunday was perfect, I’ve spent it at 8500 feet under a blazing sun 🙂 Wait for my next post..but my job just sucks up my time these days….

  2. With my camera ISO 1600 images are unusable with so much noise. In stark contrast, these pictures are great.

  3. These are really well shot, Marcus. Gorgeous details and colors. Love them all for your wonderful sense of timing and composition.
