Around the World in 12 Days – Greenland

So my Round the World trip has started. Right now it is not very exiting, as I’m spending the first four days in our Portland office fully tied up in work, not able to benefit even a bit from the splendid summer weather the Pacific Northwest has been enjoying the past weeks.

But whilst flying the first leg of my world tour I was treated to some spectacular views of Greenland’s east coast that I want to share with you today. For more photos and details about the flights continue reading after the jump….

I left Nuremberg last Tuesday at 11am local time for the 30min flight to Frankfurt, taking a Lufthansa City Line Bombadier CRJ900.  From Frankfurt I took a Lufthansa Boeing 747-400 to Vancouver, the 9h35min flight taking a very northerly routing, passing north of Iceland and crossing the middle part of Greenland before heading across barren and icy Northern Canada towards Vancouver.

I brought my Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 14-150mm F4-5.6 travel zoom for the trip, all images of Greenland were taken with this camera/lens combo. Processing of the Raws as usual in Lightroom CC. Besides the scenic flight across the fjords and glaciers of Greenland (the photos I share in this post) I enjoyed also great vistas of the Baffin Bay, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and the Canadian Rockies while crossing into British Columbia, landing in Vancouver at 2:30 pm local time. After a three-hour layover (including an hour delay) the last leg of the day was the one hour flight down to Portland on a Air Canada Dash8-400 turboprop. In beautiful weather the flight went along the Inside Passage across Orca Islands down to Seattle , passing directly above the city, then along the big stratovolcanos Mount Rainier and Mount Saint Helens to Portland, with a great view into the Columbia River Gorge right before landing in the Rose City.

After fighting jetlag for two days and packed work days I’m now really looking forward to a free summer Saturday in the Pacific Northwest. Planned is a trip to Mount Hood for some hiking.

Sunday morning 7am local I’m leaving Portland back to Vancouver, from there I will take the 12h 30 min trip across the Pacific Ocean to Taipei, the next stop on this business trip that will take me around the world.
