Have I said that on of the greatest assets of my job is that it allows me connect with so many great people all across the globe. This is especially true for those I work closely with on projects, and this forges bonds beyond pure office colleagueship. With two others of those great guys I teamed up to spend our free Portland Saturday going hiking on Mount Hood. Leaving Portland at 9am we drove the 45 minutes to Zigzag Ranger Station where we asked for a recommendation for a nice hike on the slopes of Mount Hood. They recommended the Ramona Falls hike, a pretty easy 9 mile loop trail with about a 1000ft elevation gain towards the falls. The first 4 miles of the trail are identical with the famous Pacific Crest Trail, running from Mexiko through the US up to Canada. Toughest part was that we had to cross a mountain stream balancing on tree trunks. The weather was splendid, we had great talks and enjoyed a wonderful 3 hour hikes in the beautiful landscape of Mount Hood National Forest, with views of the 11,240 feet (3,426 m) volcano, walking through fairy like treescapes and capping it with the spectacular Ramon Falls, crashing down a black, 120 feet rock wall. As camera I brought the Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 14-150mm F/4-5.6 Travel Zoom. To see the pics from this great hike in the Pacific Northwest continue after the jump…….
We really enjoyed the hike and the camaraderie on this splendid summer Saturday (thanks for the great day, Eric and Tobi!). Returning to Portland we finished the day with Burgers and Beer in on of Rose City’s many breweries, before I headed back to the hotel to pack up. Sunday morning at 4am my alarm went off and I headed out to Portland Airport to start the next leg of my Round the World business-trip, with the next stop being in Taiwan. Stay tuned!

My. Hood is an amazing mountain. If you are standing on top as I was July 4th, it’s like looking almost to Bend, Oregon. Hiking and skiing all in the same day was some of the most breathtaking views I’ve experienced.

Wow! I love seeing your photography in my part of the world! I’ve spent more time in Mt. Rainier area as we are Washington residents, but I’m taking my kids to Mt. Hood Adventure Park tomorrow. I’ve never been up close to Mt. Hood – only viewed it from a distance. I’m looking forward to it!

Yes too short. As you’ve noticed Hsinchu is very tech centered. When you return to Taiwan you should try to visit other places. It’s a beautiful county full of enthusiastic people who take pride of being democratically independent and forward thinking.
Amazing pictures and it’s really exciting to follow your fantastic journey. Hiking for hours in the amazing scenery, I wish I could do the same. Looking forward to next post 🙂
