Street Photography Quick Tip 11 – Using Color Accents
My Street Photography Quick Tips are short, easy to read and easy to use tips that I think could help you while shooting in the streets. Today’s post is about using color accents to add interest to a street photo.
Working with accentuated colors can really help to make an image pop out. In this example the bright red of the lady’s dress is picked up by the bright red flowers decorating the window sills of this historic guest house in Nuremberg’s neighboring city Fürth, and continues to the upper part of the photo with the red beer advertisement (I have no clue though why in the motherland of local craft breweries someone needs to advertise with Spanish beer). So the red color accents guide the eye of the viewer through the image.
Try it yourself! Take your camera, hit the streets and have fun searching for motives with accentuated colors.
The photo was taken with my Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 14-150mm F/4-5.6 travel zoom. Image specs 1/60 sec @ f/5.4 and ISO 1600 (it was already getting dark, thus the high ISO). Focal lenght was 60mm (equals 120mm full frame equivalent). Raw processing in Lightroom CC.

Very nice. I am trying to upgrade my camera from Sony A 58 , what would you recommend I look at .
It’s hard to recommend a camera when I don’t know why you want to upgrade. Image quality? Lugging less gear around by changing to a mirrorless system?
At the end you can take great photos with every camera. And it’s not always the camera body, but also the lens that plays a major role in image quality.
The Sony A58 is a great camera with a decent APS-C sensor. Natural successor would be the A68, if you want to stay Sony DSLR in the prosumer segment. But also the A77 could be worth looking at. But I can’t give personal recommendations on those as I never shot Sony, I know only Nikon (my previous system) and Olympus (what I use now).

Sorry, it took me so long to find out what, I was not happy with my current camera. When I take photo’s with the small lenses which is DT3.5-5.6/18-55 SAM II, the pictures comes out amazing, and I get what I see through display screen after I take the shot. When I take pictures with my bigger lens 4.5-5.6/75-300, what I see is not what I get. The output is pretty disappointing. When I see the photos on my laptop or ipad. I am not at all happy with the shots. If you want to see pictures, then I could post some on my blog. Let me know.
It would be interesting to know of you shoot jpg or RAW, also, if you are disappointed din the sharpness or the color rendition. Especially if you shoot RAW files, all the files need to go through post processing. It is like developing film in the old days. The lens should not have an impact on what you see / what you get, this is mainly something decided by the sensor or the jpg engine of the camera. Sure it would be interesting to see some examples posted on your blog! Marcus
I shoot in Jpg, since I had no software to convert RAW format. I will put together a post with pictures.
