Weekly Photo Challenge: Weathered

Weathered

Weathered” is the theme of Word Press’ Weekly Photo Challenge. Maybe you’ve read my post about our visit to the diamond ghost town Kolmanskop in Namibia that we visited last summer. There was nothing more “weathered” as these hundred year old buidings that are being slowly consumed by the Namib desert. So an easy choice for the challenge. For my collection of “weathered” detailed photos of the ghost town continue after the jump…

  1. Interesting to see more of your desert collection, Marcus. That weathered ceiling was striking in its lines and textures. 🙂

  2. I love weathered shots. I have such an obsession with weathered dead trees on coasts, not sure if that’s strange… but the shapes are incredible

  3. Fascinating images. Particularly like the one with the staircase and the sandy floor…quite surreal. The desert reclaims what was man-made. How transient human life really is…

  4. A beautiful collection of photos! I have a soft spot for decrepit, abandoned buildings so I really love these shots. Have a great weekend, Mikki 🙂

    1. Thanks, Mikki, your kind words are always so much appreciated! Glad I touched your “soft spot” ;-). But this place in the desert is truly magic! Have a great weekend, wherever you are 😉 ! Marcus

  5. Your images are absolutely stunning, Marcus. Seen through your eyes, even desolation and decay are beautiful! 🙂

  6. Wow to the sand filled floors!! That’s amazing to see! Isn’t it ironic how beautiful destruction can be? I read once that we would be astonished at how fast nature and the earth would return to balance if humans were no longer part of the equation. “Time and tide wait for no man” as they say…

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Michelle! Yes, that town is amazing. How much history is buried in that sand. I remember seeing a series on Nat Geo TV about how our earth would look when we are gone and nature reclaims what we leave behind. Fascinating! Hope you’re having a great weekend! Marcus

  7. Great photos! Truly being swallowed by the desert. Some of the wood and metal designs are still looking nice. Have a fine weekend Marcus. 👍🏻
