Life in the Big Apple

The post should be titled “Sign of Life from the Big Apple”. We’ve been roaming the streets of New York City for 5 days now. Initially I intended to blog each day, but gave up on it on day 2. Anyone surprised? The SD cards are filling up nicely now. You will get to see it eventually, promised! Also please bear with me not answering to comments or reading other people’s blogs, I will catch up on both once back home. So I will leave you just with a few street shots, as those need not much curating or processing. For a few more shots, what we saw so far and how happy I am with the gear I brought, continue after the jump…

Monday we went downtown to see the new World Trade Center, the Oculus, the 9/11 memorial and museum, and we went on top of the new WTC tower. Tuesday we visited the Museum of Natural History, enjoyed Times Square, saw Aladdin and went on top of Rockefeller Center to take in the late night skyline of the City. On Wednesday we started by walking Central Park, then took the Circle Line around Manhattan Island and finished off exploring Greenwich Village, East Village and the Flat Iron. Thursday it was all Miss Liberty (including a trip up to the crown) and Ellis Island. The sunset we enjoyed from the Brooklyn side in the Dumbo park.

The highlight today will be to see a Billy Joel concert in the Madison Square Garden. Life is good 🙂 !

I’m exclusively shooting with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4 Pro Zoom. I did bring the PEN-F with the 17mm F/1.8 (intended for use it for my Street Photography), but the 12-100 is such a versatile lens that I left the PEN-F in the hotel safe from day 2 on. I removed though the battery grip and the lens cap from the OM-D, a tip I picked up by watching a class with Jay Maisel on Kelby Training the other day. This way, the big cam with the big lens looks much less intimidating, and I get away with all my street shooting, even in close distance in the subway.
