Dreams come True

Last night, Big Girl has made one of her dreams come true. As kid, as probably all girls do, she wanted to be a Ballerina, but for one reason or the other, she never made it to join a ballet group. As teenager, she watched all episodes of the Australian ballet TV series “Dance Academy”, sad she missed the opportunity and stating that she’ll never be a dancer. Then, at the turn of being 20, she signed up for ballet classes at our local adult evening school, together with a friend.

And last night, after a nearly a year of hard work and endless rehearsals, she took to the stage in a production of Romeo and Juliet, all organized and played by the local adult evening school, featuring their ballet classes for adults, teens and children. Big Girl’s group played three supporting roles, first peasant ladies, then maids, and finally some court ladies of Juliet.

The performance was totally breathtaking, I have to say.  The show took place in a very historic setting, the courtyard of the former Academia Norica, the university of the city of Nuremberg, in the town of Altdorf just outside of Nuremberg. The historic buildings around a courtyard were inaugurated 1575, and provided for a great setting for the play written by William Shakespeare and turned into a ballet by composer Sergei Prokofiev. I was a very proud father, admiring Big Girl and the rest of the crew in their beautiful professional costumes. From my view it was a totally pro performance, an amazing accomplishment by the ballet teachers and their students. Even Big Boy was impressed, not only by his sister. The girl playing Juliet is a friend of his from school. Juliet’s performance was absolutely outstanding, we were all at awe at her dancing skills and her emotions she displayed during that long performance on a beautiful warm summer night in this historic setting.

I took all those photos sitting in row 5 of the bleachers erected in the historic courtyard. I brought the PEN-F with the 12-40mm F/2.8  and the EM-1 with the 40-150mm F/2.8, both Olympus Pro Zooms. And once more I was thoroughly impressed by the performance of my mirrorless micro four thirds system, but judge yourself. I manually dialed in the shutter speed to ensure sharp images, with variabe apertures and Auto-ISO.

The photos are pretty much out of camera, with RAW conversion in Lightroom Classic CC I applied some subtle sharpening and added a vignette here and there.
