Into the Light

Into the Light
Into the light | Nuremberg | 2020

Yesterday was my first day back shooting on the Streets of Nuremberg after the passing of my mom. The past four weeks have been tough, both emotional and physical. The two weeks being daily at her side, when it was already clear that her life will come to an end. Sitting at her bedside the last hours. Then, coping with the loss and with all the tasks that come with it. I didn’t feel like picking up a camera. Neither I was up to do any blogging. But now it is time to get back into the light. I missed going out to play with the light. It’s the best therapy one can ask for.

I also missed being in touch with all of you. Give me some days to answer the comments of the past weeks and catch up with all of your blogs. The Streets of Nuremberg are back in business.

The photograph was taken at the entrance to Nuremberg’s Way of Human Rights. Shot with a Leica M and a 35mm Summicron F/2. Image specs 1/500 sec @ f/16 and ISO 500.

Wish you a great week!

Marcus

  1. I know how you feel, Marcus. I lost my mother five years ago and a terrific mother-in-law recently. Like you said, it’s tough, especially when the wound is fresh. Good that you are back in the light. Time heals all wounds.

  2. Good to have you back and knowing you are taking in the light ✨🌟✨. She is watching over now and lives on in you. My heartfelt thoughts are with you 💝.

  3. I am so sorry for the loss of your mother, Marcus. Sending much love to you and your family as you walk through this time of grief.

  4. So sorry to learn of your loss Marcus, it’s an awful time but sits pleasing to learn you are picking things up again which I’m certain is the best therapy possible. Was in Germany last weekend and apart from nearly getting blown off my feet, had a wonderful time! Marion

    1. Thanks, Marion, your kind words are so much appreciated! The storm was indeed kind of frightening! Hope you are ok, as the UK seems to be really under a storm today. Glad you enjoyed Germany! Marcus

  5. Marcus, my deepest condolences. I lost my mom last May and I know what you went through. Our mothers never die, they will be always with us. I am glad that you are back, that you took your camera and created this great photo.

  6. Sorry to hear about the loss, Marcus. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I’m sure blogging and the community will help you get back soon. Take care!

  7. Mein Beileid. Ich habe meine Mutter diesen Monat vor 6 Jahren verloren und weiß, wie es ist. Alles Liebe für die nächsten Wochen und Monate- trauern dauert lange, aber man wird mit jedem Tag aktiver.

  8. Losing a beloved parent changes life. Adding an aspect of normality, one at a time, helps restore life slowly. Work, children, music, art, sport, tv.. whatever works. Be strong.

  9. Loss takes away much of the energy for other things, but in time the associated feelings soften and life returns to its usual pace.

  10. Sorry for your loss. My Mom passed a few years back and I had that same 2 weeks where I was just waiting with her. Very painful experience but I look back on it as some time I had to talk to her and say goodbye. Good to see you back. I hope you have many good memories to ease this time.

    1. Thanks so much for your kind words and thoughts, Mike, they mean a lot to me! I was thinking about the good times when I was with her. It helped a lot that I was there and able to say goodbye. Marcus

  11. I’m so sorry to hear you went through this, Marcus. My mother had a very slow, painful time with cancer and I was there for the last two weeks, too. I can understand not having any interest in photography or blogging for a while after dealing with so much, emotionally as well as practically. It’s good that you’re feeling better – the photo is perfect as an expression of where you’re heading now. Take care!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, Lynn, they mean the world to me! Sorry to hear what you had to go through with your mother. It is always hard, but I feel it helps to have been with her during the final weeks. Marcus

  12. Wishing you solace during this time of your mom’s passing. May playing with the light support you and soothe your heart.
