Instead of the bustling Christmas market on the main square there is emptiness and silence on the first advent weekend in the Streets of Nuremberg, with people being asked to stay home and most activities being shut down due to our second lockdown.
But resilient she stands, the old city, as she has for the past 970 years, having survived the plague waves of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries as well as the destructions of the aerial attacks during World War II that destroyed 90% of the buildings within the city walls. And the Imperial Castle, the mighty bell towers of St. Sebald church and City Hall will still be there when this ugly pandemic will finally subside.

That sky is gorgeous. I’ve been painting a lot in the last week and I can see that sky in my next painting, even as an abstract. Stay safe my friend. We’re in lockdown again here in Toronto for at least another two weeks, maybe more. Our Christmas Market is cancelled as well as is every other Christmas event that we love this time of year. Better safe than sorry. My son and his family in London all tested positive for COVID last week but luckily their symptoms were mild. They think they caught it from the nursery where their ten month old baby goes twice a week. They got tested because she had the fever.
I hope your son and his family continue to do well over in London, will keep fingers crossed. Covid can be a nasty disease for some! And thanks for your kind words, Carol, and stay safe! Marcus

während ich mich über den abendlichen Altstadtausblick freue, überlege ich auch, aus welchem Blickwinkel Dir die Aufnahme gelungen ist. Die Terrasse am Hauptmarkt wäre zu niedrig. Du wirst doch keine Drohne gestartet haben? Auch der Balkon der Frauenkirche würde eine andere Perspektive abgeben – vielleicht von einem der Türme? Vom Turm von Sankt Lorenz bräuchtest Du ein Super-Teleobjektiv. Wie dem auch sei, mag ich Deine photographischen Eindrücke aus unserer Stadt, wie zuletzt vom Rochus-Friedhof und hier über die Sebalder Altstadt.
Dass der Christkindlesmarkt wegen Corona abgesetzt ist, finde ich ebenfalls traurig und gleichwohl begründet, und so suchen wir in Nürnberg, diese und jene neue Aussicht zu finden. Auch ohne den offiziellen Titel verstehe ich Nürnberg als eine “Kulturhauptstadt”.

Lieber Bernd, es wundert mich nicht, dass du nicht drauf kommst, von wo die Aufnahme der Altstadt entstanden ist. Es war nämlich auch eine außergewöhnliche Möglichkeit, diesen Schnappschuss zu tätigen. Aufgenommen habe ich das Bild aus der Gondel des Riesenrats, welches kürzlich auf dem Hauptmarkt stand. Als wir gerade ganz oben standen, zauberte die Abendsonne das magische Licht über die Dächer der Altstadt. Dir und den Deinen auch eine wunderbare Adventszeit! Liebe Grüße
