Being on Christmas break doesn’t mean you need to overdo the relaxation part. Don’t be a couch potato. Grab your camera, venture out into the nature (garden, park, woods) behind your house and shoot some monochrome details. Go out and be creative! And feel good about it!
Having snow as a clean background sure helps, but this exercise can be done in any light, and during anytime of the year. And everybody sure has access to some kind of natural environment where you can shoot some details. Important is to leave your home, be outside and be creative.
I took my Olympus OM-D E-M1X with the mZuiko 12-100mm and went into the woods behind the house. I did dial in a monochrome shooting mode to see the black & white live view on the LCD screen of my camera, helping with composition and visualization of the black and white shapes, textures and contrasts.
Keep it simple. Shoot what attracts your eye. You don’t need to win a photo exhibition with your work. Your images just need to please you. Make some art and feel good about it. Hopefully you will get into the flow after taking the first photographs. And the best thing is you are outside in the fresh air.
