We really got hit by snow over the last days. In fact, it’s been a few years since we had so much of the white powder. So much, that the other day The Significant Other and I took our cross country skies and started a tour right from behind our house. And this afternoon, right before sunset, we did another little hike into the winter woods surrounding our village.

Bringing along my Fuji X100F I wanted to capture some black and white images of the winter landscape. I was looking specifically for high contrast scenes between the bright snow and the dark branches of the trees that are especially suitable to shoot in monochrome. I was using the monochrome plus red filter film simulation of the Fuji, which further enhanced the contrast of the scenes.

The snow covered winter woods provided enough suitable compositions, with lines, geometric forms, layers and different textures.

The fixed lens of the X100F is a 23mm F/2, which translates to a 35mm in full frame equivalent. 35mm rally is an all round focal length, perfectly suitable for street photography. But it is versatile enough to shoot landscapes as well as portraits. So the Fuji X100F has become my grab-and-go camera when I head outside and want to bring a camera without much thinking.

So the walk through the winter woods around our house was just the perfect opportunity for my visual push ups of the day.
All images are jpgs straight out of camera.

Love this!
That looks like a beautiful heavy, wet snow. I see that you’re having rain – or already had rain – so it’s gone now. I bet you’re glad you got out there! I like the photo looking up into the trees. 🙂
Lovely captures, Marcus. We’ve had a light covering of snow this week, but are expecting a big one over the weekend. I hope you are doing well! 🙂
It’s been years since I’ve seen a deep snow like this one. And you’ve captured the trees so beautifully. Thanks for posting these photos. I feel as if I’m there.
I love these. Monochrome winter woods always look so cool.
I always feel like I’m in the moment with you. Thank you for sharing, as always 🙂
Beautiful images Marcus. The last three are my favourites. Very nicely framed and love that bending tree. Great stuff
“The woods are lovely, dark and deep, …”
Nice winter captures, so lucky to have snow…. we have heavy rain for the moment.
Thanks for commenting, so much appreciated! Hope your weather has cleared up in the meantime. Normally, we also have much more rain than snow in the winter.

Beautiful winter photos!
Marcus, how beautiful are these photos, especially in black and white. I love the contrast between these two colors so much. And the trees are so tall, so majestic. We are having snow on and off but not like in your country.
My very best wishes to you!
Wonderful winter images, Marcus. You are lucky to have the forest behind your house ready for you and your Significant Other to enjoying the skiing.
Thanks so much, and we are lucky indeed, especially during these lockdown times. And downtown is only a 20 minute drive, so we have the best of both worlds 🙂
Very beautiful winter photos, Marcus! Our mountains have been hit hard with snowstorms around Las Vegas, a bit of snow even made it into the valley this time but gladly it’s all gone.
Thanks, John! Our’s will be gone by the weekend, heavy rain will hit tomorrow. It’s going to be a mess! Marcus
