Greece explored – Foodporn

Garides (Grilled Prawns)

I received quite a few requests to post something about Greek food. So here it is. What we ate in the past two weeks. “Greece explored – Foodporn” takes you on a culinary trip through the offerings of the “Tavernas”, the small greek restaurants . Enjoy – and (small disclaimer) don’t continue if you are hungry….

Horiatiki (Greek Village Salad)
Tzatziki (Yoghurt with cucumbers, garlic and olive oil)
Melitzano Salata (Eggplant Dip)
Melitzanes Tiganita (Fried Eggplants)
Kolokithakia Tiganita (Fried Zucchini)
Horta (Cooked Wild Greens)
Kolokithakia – Keftedes (Fried Zucchini Balls)
Tyri Feta (Fried Cheese Pie)
Melitzanes me feta (Oven cooked Eggplants with Feta Cheese)
Tiganopsomo (Fried bread with cheese filling)
Always good – Olives
Souvlaki with Pita (Grilled Pork Skewers with Bread)
Paidakia (Grilled Lamb Chops)
Pancetta (Grilled Pork Belly)
Kebab
Lukaniko (Grilled Peasant Sausage)
Beef Filet with Mushrooms, Figs and Rice
Keftedes – Meatballs
Marithia (small fried sardines – you swallow the whole fish)
Dorada (Grilled Gilthead Seabream)
Kalmari Tis Skaras (Grilled Squid)
Kalamarakia Tiganita (Fried Squid)
Xtapodi Tis Skaras (Grilled Octopus)

So here you have it, this is a sample of the dishes we tried over the last two weeks. Typically we share two or three (or sometimes four) starters, always have a Greek Village Salad and then each eat a main course. Add cold water and some greek wine. And after dinner a “Coffee Eliniko”, a strong greek Mocca.

The photographs above were all taken with my iPhone 12 Pro Max. So this is no real food photography, but merely a documentation of what we ate. To make the family and friends back home even more envious.

I hope you liked the culinary edition of my “Greece explored” series. Stay tuned for more (even though I have to admit we’re back home by now).

Have a great Sunday

Marcus
