There was music on the Streets of Nuremberg last night, with the 2026 Bardentreffen singer-songwriter festival happening this weekend. The Significant Other and I headed into the old town to listen to the performance of the band “Gracefull Black & The Weekenders”, where a close friend of us is the drummer. It was awesome to be back out on the streets on a warm summer night. Combining music, street photography and some sightseeing in our historic old town. Join us for a stroll by clicking “read more” below…
This summer, Nuremberg is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bardentreffen, a singer-songwriter festival created 1976 in the honor of Nuremberg’s Meistersinger Hans Sachs on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of his death. Two jubilees that uniquely connect the medieval as well as contemporary art of songwriting. Over three days, 200.000 visitors can see (all for free) 400 artists on 8 stages and many other locations around the old town. Our friend’s band played in front of the Café Dürer at the beautiful Tiergärtnertorplatz below the Imperial Castle.
After plenty of music and a few beer’s we headed downhill to historic St Sebald Church. During the festival, visitors can climb the Southern bell tower of this magnificent medieval church for some spectacular views of the Imperial Castle, down to the historic main square and the red roofs of the Old Town. From 1696-1706, the organist of St Sebald was Johann Pachelbel, author of the world famous Canon in D-Major. Pachelbel is buried in Nuremberg on the St. Rochus cemetery.
After we climbed the steep staircase we thoroughly enjoyed beautiful sights of the medieval Nuremberg. The two of us were actually the very last allowed to climb up last night, around 11pm in the evening.
From the tower we listened to the faint music of the concert on the main stage on the central market, even at that time of the evening still filled to capacity.
Back on the ground we headed to the Winemarket area of the Old Town with its many bars and restaurants, and I enjoyed the opportunity for some street photography with me Nikon Zf and the amazing Voigtländer 40mm f/1.2 Nocton. We met my sister and her hubby for a late night cocktail to close out this wonderful night full of sights and sounds on the Streets of Nuremberg.
I hoped you enjoyed that little Friday night stroll through Nuremberg’s Old Town.
