I’m sure you have witnessed those situations, where people wanting to take a portrait of someone else place their subject to have the sun shining directly onto them. Because it looks nice. Objects look sharp, crisp and colorful when the sun shines on them. That’s definitely valid for landscapes, buildings and stationary things. It’s less favorable for human beings. Because they tend to squint when facing the sun, and you get unfavorable shadows in their eye sockets, especially when the sun is high.

Glow” is the theme of the WPC Weekly Photo Challenge this week. So let it glow! My title photo is from an old brewery in Bayreuth, Germany. There are not many surfaces that glow like red brick. The image was taken with my Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 17mm F/1.8. Image specs 1/640 sec @ f/f5,6 and ISO 200.

Apocalyptic Fountain

After a business meeting in Munich yesterday I had a half hour left before my train departed back to Nuremberg. Close to Munich’s Central Station is the Karlsplatz or “Stachus” as it is called by the locals, a huge square with a big fountain on it.
