I was kind of missing in action the past week, I have to admit, and this due to multiple reasons. First of all plenty of work for the job that pays the bills. Plus, I was severely impacted by a heavy case of jet lag during my first days in Portland. And this past weekend I was out and about in the city, preferring to roam the streets of Rose City with my camera doing some photography, rather than sitting in front of the MacBook and do blogging. Although I must admit I carried my little laptop with me in my backpack. I had some romanticized aspirations of doing some writing while resting in one of Portland’s many craft coffee shops. But with only two free days available, I ended up running around and shooting the whole time, despite frequent downpours that hit the Pacific Northwest over the weekend. Wayback Machine

The magic of photographic archives is that whenever you like you can turn on the “wayback machine”. Today I was looking back into the very beginnings of my digital photography. Searching for a complete different photograph, I stumbled across this shot from December 30th 2001. The camera was a Sony Cybershot DSC 1. We just had moved to Italy that year. When friends from Nuremberg visited us in Genoa we visited the little coastal town of Camogli. The three little girls in this image are now grown women of almost 20 years. We adults have a few wrinkles more. And we all are still friends. Live is changing, but life is also good. Yes, we should capture all those moments in our hearts. But photography helps to preserve those hidden little treasures that put a smile on our faces when we look at them and remember……

Today we went to see the Musical “The Lion King” in Hamburg. Visually it was an awesome show, probably the best I’ve ever seen, but I felt the singers couldn’t quite match it. Still a great evening.
