This is my entry for Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge: Looking Down at Things. As you probably know from my previous challenge entries, I want to meet the challenges with a Street Photography image. When I read Cee’s title, I immediately had this photo in mind, that I took in the streets of Genoa in 2015. This obviously meets the requirements….looking down 😉
This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge has the theme “Shadow”. My entry perfectly reflects the current status of my life. Sometimes I feel like I’m spending more time in the air than on terra firma. For the job that pays the bills I’m working on a big project with a base near Portland, Oregon. For the foreseeable future I will be a lot in the Pacific Northwest of the USA as well as traveling to subsites around the globe. A lot of air time. A lot of time away from home.
This morning I got in from Detroit. But I shouldn’t complain too much as I got a complementary upgrade to First Class on my Lufthansa flight back to Frankfurt, so I crossed the North Atlantic in style. Thanks to the pilot’s decision to fly around the winter storm over the Northeastern USA the flight took even an hour longer than usual which was nice because I was able to get some sleep after a marvelous dinner. And I still was back in Nuremberg in time for breakfast with the family.
Next Wednesday I’m heading back over the pond, for three days packed with meetings. Not sure if I will have some opportunity to go shooting.
The photo above I took with my iPhone while approaching Brussels Airport. The Lesson: always have something ready to shoot with, you never know what jumps into your eyes.
I’m getting the hang of these photo challenges. This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge has the theme “Solitude”. And I can once again match that with fun of my Street Photography photographs. Well, “street” is relative, as this image was taken inside a church in Italy. For me this is a perfect representation of solitude.
For me solitude is nothing negative. I don’t mind being alone at times. I’m alone a lot when traveling on business, at least while in the hotel in the evenings. But I’m at peace with that. Those evenings I spend with a good book or with photography. There are always photos I need to work on, there are blogs to read or blogposts to write. Sometimes I grab my cam and head out on the hunt for some new images. Perhaps I’m at ease when alone because I have a family and friends I can return to.
I acknowledge there are many that have no one to turn to. And those might hate being alone.

Yessss…I did it again 😉 Also this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge “Repurpose” I can answer with a Street Photography image. A man making shoe soles out of old car tires. If this does not qualify as being a repurpose I don’t know what else could….
I took this photo in the Streets of Moshi in Tanzania. The camera I used was my Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the mZuiko 14-150mm Travel Zoom, image details are 1/100 sec, f/5,6 @ ISO 200 and 42mm focal length (= 84mm full frame equivalent due to the m4/3 crop factor of 2).
Who says Street Photography can’t produce graceful images? This is my entry for this week’s Weekly Photo Challenge “graceful” .
I took this photo of the backlit silhouette of a girl gracefully running in front of a fountain with gloomy thunderstorm clouds overhead in Munich. The camera I used was my Ricoh GR II, image details are 1/400 sec, f/7,1 @ ISO 160. The Ricoh has a fixed lens with 18mm focal length (equals 28mm in full frame).
After inserting a video for the first time in my blogpost Music raising to the skies last week this is another first for “Streets of Nuremberg” with the very first participation to the Word Press Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s motto is “Anticipation” and fits quite well to Street Photography.
My contribution is this photo I took tonight on another visit to Nuremberg’s Christkindlesmarkt. I captured this father and his little boy in front of one of the stalls selling toys. Isn’t this anticipation in the purest sense? Christmas is a week away!
Image taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the mZuiko 12-40mm F/2.8 Pro Lens. I photographed the two through the glass side of the stall, thus the reflections. Image was taken with 1/60 sec at f/2.8 and ISO 1250. Cropped to 4×6 and adjustments to curves and clarity in Lightroom CC.
