This past Valentines Day I was in Portland, Oregon. And while shooting some Street Photography during the weekend spent in the Rose City, there was plenty of Valentines vibes in the air. Some decorations were more weird than others, true to the motto of the city. I originally intended to save those “love is in the air” street photos for a Valentines post next year, but they are also the perfect fit for today, which marks my 26th wedding anniversary.
And as I have previously written on this blog, I am a blessed man. Sure enough we will celebrate tonight
Shooting a layered street image is something I love doing, because it adds interest. And while the two heart-shaped balloons in the title image are doubtless the main subject, there is also a hidden subject behind. You don’t necessarily see it at the first glance. But the leading line of the sidewalk leads the eye to it eventually. The walking couple holding hands.
This is another example why I call Street Photography my creative playground. While probably not a stellar street image, I found it extremely gratifying for myself, because I saw the situation and captured it. And in the end, my photography only has to satisfy me. If someone else likes the image as well, that’s a bonus.
I took both photographs with my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4 Pro Zoom. Image specs are 1/50 sec – f/4 – ISO 250 – 24mm for the ballon photo and 1/30 sec – f/4 – ISO 1600 – 100mm for the movie photo.
Wish you a great Tuesday!
Marcus
