Sometimes you have to be quick. Street scenes are there for a second, then gone forever. No time to fiddle with camera settings. My advice for you: Shoot in P-Mode, when your are not deliberately photographing a certain subject and have ample time to adjust composition and settings.
In P-Mode the camera usually dials in a fail-safe setting between f/5.6 and f/8, resulting in a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the action that suddenly appears in front of your lens. As in this case, where my Olympus OM-D E-M1X with the 12-100 F/4 gave me 1/800 sec @ f/8 and ISO 200, at 100mm focal length. Suddenly I saw this scene appearing, where Donkeys were behaving like…well, Donkeys. I just had to rise the cam to my eye, zoom in and press the shutter.
So next time you are out and about with your camera to shoot street scenes: Shoot in P-Mode!
