Wow…there was never a four week break between posts on this blog. And this when I wanted March to be the month to pick up the pace on the “Streets of Nuremberg”. But then, two years into the pandemic, the Covid bug finally caught up with us. First Big Boy, then myself, then The Significant Other. It was no fun, for none of us. But all of us were triple vaccinated, and so we were able to weather the virus at home. While it felt like a typical winter flu, it still took me the good part of two weeks to really get back on my feet. Two weeks also without any creative energy. Frequent readers of this blog know my passion of shooting street photography in an exhibition. This one, with 50 paintings from Claude Monet, was once more in the beautiful setting of Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale. I was shooting with my new Leica SL2-S and the Vario-Elmarit-SL 1:2.8/24-70 ASPH.
Shooting in the low light of the exhibition, it was a good opportunity to put Leica’s low light capabilities to a test. Shooting the whole time with ISO 6400, it performed admirably, giving me shutter speeds of 1/100 of a sec to freeze the action.
But to capture some motion blur for a different kind of added interest, I went as low as 0.3 seconds shutter speed. The IBIS (in-body image stabilization) of the Leica still performed just as well, allowing the background still to be tack sharp.
So, on top of being eye in eye with a master of painting, enjoying the incredible art of Claude Monet, I was able add some nice shots to my exhibition street photo collection.
