StoNur on the Road – Banana Streets

I have promised to some readers that I show some more photographs from our Tanzania trip in February 2016. I visited this marvelous East African Country together with our local Lutheran Church’s Trombone Choir on the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the new Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) Frederick Shoo, to which our Choir was invited to participate. We spent a whole week in Moshi on the southern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Besides participating in the program during and around the inauguration ceremony we had the opportunity to tour Moshi and visit some church projects in the vicinity, before finishing off with a Safari in Arusha National Park (remember the movie “Hatari” with John Wayne, which was shot there?).

In this first blog post of a little Tanzania series I take you to the Banana market in the little town of Mwika in the Moshi Rural District. It is situated on the South Eastern slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro, a dormant volcano and the highest mountain in Africa,  rising approximately 4,900 m (16,000 ft) from its base to the highest summit at 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) above sea level. Anticipation

After inserting a video for the first time in my blogpost Music raising to the skies last week this  is another first for “Streets of Nuremberg” with the very first participation to the Word Press Weekly Photo Challenge. This week’s motto is “Anticipation” and fits quite well to Street Photography.

My contribution is this photo I took tonight on another visit to Nuremberg’s Christkindlesmarkt. I captured this father and his little boy in front of one of the stalls selling toys. Isn’t this anticipation in the purest sense? Christmas is a week away!

Image taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the mZuiko 12-40mm F/2.8 Pro Lens. I photographed the two through the glass side of the stall, thus the reflections. Image was taken with 1/60 sec at f/2.8 and ISO 1250. Cropped to 4×6 and adjustments to curves and clarity in Lightroom CC.

Stay Interested !

We are all living a different life. Coming from different backgrounds, living in different social environments, having pursued different career paths. Sometimes we are happy and content, sometimes we are deeply enervated or bored by our surroundings and about what we do. Sometimes we even feel trapped in life and by the burdens of having to make a living, feed our families and make our partners happy. And we feel we have missed opportunities in certain stages of our lives. And at times this leads to loss of energy and motivation.

But regardless of the situation, should we always try to dig ourselves out of these emotional holes? Finding new motivation and interest in what we do?

Technically no street photography I would say even though there are persons in the image and there is a road on the far shoreline ;-).  Sunset at a small beach on Elba’s North Shore near Cape St. Andrea. Both images shot with the Olympus PEN-F and the m.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0 . Jpg’s as they came out of camera (Color Profile 3 and Dramatic Art Filter 2).How beautiful is Italy !

With today’s post I’m venturing far away from my usual posts around Street- and Travel Photography. But vacation time is not only time for intensified photography around documenting our family trip to Italy.

Holidays means also having finally time for a lot of (photography) related reading of books, blogs and websites to get fresh doses of inspiration. And also having time to try out a few things off your usual beaten paths.

In this case I decided to do some portrait photography with my (more or less willing) family. First victim up was my son Daniel. Stages of Life on a Street Photography Morning

While strolling through the streets of Marseille’s magnificent Old Town some weeks ago I also took some photographs of local street life. While doing my selections / post processing a couple of images caught my eye. I realized that  unintentionally I have captured humans in activities that for me are somehow representative for their respective  stages of their lives. So I put them together in this post and wrote down a few brief thoughts coming to my mind when looking at those images.

I want to start with the elder ones. The generation that has built the foundations of what we live in today through a life full of work and caring for their families. The last stage can be a tough one. Poverty, deteriorating health, the loss of a partner, increasing loneliness. Still there are many that remain active, take their lives into their hands, find time to enjoy what they didn’t have time for during their working years. StoNur on the Road – Porsche Museum

Photographing cars is not exactly related to Street Photography, but at least they drive on streets and are integral part of our daily life. Last weekend I had the chance to attend a workshop with Olympus Visionary Thomas Adorff in the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, a perk that came with my purchase of an Olympus PEN-F earlier in the year.

Another one from the motion blurred series of cyclists I took on the Pegnitz bikeway near Nuremberg’s Halletor, opposite from the “Schnepperschütz” Bar. Taken with the Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 17mm. Shot was taken with 1/13 sec @ f/7.1 and ISO200 with the Monochrome 2 profile of the PEN (jpg out of camera).

Weißgerbergasse

The Weißgerbegasse is a scenic alley in Nurembergs historic old town north of the Pegnitz River. Since medieval times home to the profession of the tanners (hence the name,  tanner or skinner =Gerber), the ensemble of 20 half timbered houses (Fachwerkhäuser) has survived the bombings of WW II, has been lovingly restored and is now part of Nuremberg’s Historic Mile (will do a separate future post about that).  Continue reading “Nuremberg Explored (2)” →
