Travel Day (1)

Homeward Bound
Homeward Bound | USA | 2017

What a week, what a trip. Portland (Oregon), Cypress (California) and Plano (Texas) all in one week. Some readers asked about some shots from Southern California. There are non. I did have a dinner at Huntington Beach, but it was dark and apart from this dinner event there were only airports, hotels, meeting rooms. After a full week away from home (I left last Sunday before sunrise, will return this Sunday late afternoon) I’m looking forward for some nights at home, before heading back to the US (Detroit) the week after next. Right now I sit in the Lounge at Atlanta’s Hartsfield Intl, waiting for my transatlantic flight to Paris. There is nothing glorious about Business Travel. Photographically I’m happy noneless, ’cause I got this great shot of the Heineken Bar I already posted. One good shot a week makes me happy 🙂

You all have a great Sunday!

My Sunday Miracle

Miracle
Miracle | Moosbach | 2017

Like many places on this planet we were blessed with plenty snow this weekend. As I’m fighting a really nasty cold I didn’t use the opportunity to head into Nuremberg to photograph in the snow covered city. But Sunday late afternoon my significant other more or less kicked me out of the house for a little walk in the woods and fields behind our house. Initially I didn’t want to take a camera, but then again, which photographer leaves the house without one?  So I grabbed the PEN-F and we headed out the door.  And sure enough, in the trees just behind the house my little miracle happened.  For the story and a couple more snowy sunset photos from Frankonia continue reading after the jump…..

StoNur’s Landscapes – Frankonian Sunset

Winter Sunset
Winter Sunset | Franken | 2017

Despite Streets Of Nuremberg being mainly a Street Photography blog I will throw in the occasional landscape photo. I took this image at the Scherauer Weiher, a fish pond near Leinburg to the East of Nuremberg. Here in Frankonia (Franken) we sure live in a beautiful area of Germany.

I took this photo with my iPhone. Remember the saying “the best camera is the one you have with you”? So true….

Have a great day!

Christmas 2016 is in the books. New Year 2017 is around the corner. Here in Germany we call the days in between “zwischen den Jahren”, translating to “between the years”. Historically this was the period between the end of the old year (December 24th) and the beginning of the new year (January 6th). This period are also known as the twelve nights.

Traditionally this is a period of unwinding, relaxation. Most people are off work, going skiing, traveling to warm destinations or just staying at home.

Photographically this is also a rest period for me. I just don’t feel like hitting the streets, did enough of this in December. So it is time for revisiting some old photos in my library. I’m putting together the annual family photo book of 2016. I also read a lot of photography magazines and have finally some time to study the amazing work of Elliot Erwitt, one of my Street Photography heroes. I’ve treated myself to some of his books, but during the year really never had  time to go through them in detail. And of course I’m planning my next posts of “Instant Inspirations” and “Street Photography Quick Tips”.

The photo above is one from a past family trip to Lake Chiemsee, east of Munich at the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, taken exactly two years ago. It is famous for one of the Palaces of King Ludwig II (the crazy Bavarian King that also built the world famous Neuschwanstein Castle), a small version of the Palace of Versailles in France, situated on one of the two islands in the lake. It was a cold but glorious day that treated us to an amazing sunset. Taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 and the m.Zuiko 14-150mm f/4-5.6 travel zoom at 14mm focal length, 1/125 sec @ f/5.6 and ISO 200, handheld. This is one of my rare landscape shots I’m actually proud of.

I hope you all had a great Christmas and find some time to relax as well.

Last Man Standing | Isola d’Elba | 2016
Technically no street photography I would say even though there are persons in the image and there is a road on the far shoreline ;-).  Sunset at a small beach on Elba’s North Shore near Cape St. Andrea. Both images shot with the Olympus PEN-F and the m.Zuiko 12mm f/2.0 . Jpg’s as they came out of camera (Color Profile 3 and Dramatic Art Filter 2).How beautiful is Italy !
