Goodbye Evernote

This morning I found an email from Evernote in my inbox, stating that in the coming weeks the use of Evernote Basic will be restricted to two devices (one computer and one cellphone, two computers or one cellphone and one tablet, but I think you get the point). You need to upgrade to “plus”, “premium”, or “business” plans in order to continue to sync your notes across multiple devices.

The thing is I don’t want to spend big bucks on just sharing a few notes and collected infos across multiple devices. And all the great things included in the “plus” or “premium” plans are pretty useless for me. And even the cheapest plan (34,99 USD per year) offers just the additional functionality of saving emails to notes and using offline notebooks on mobile devices in addition to multi device sync.  Continue reading “Goodbye Evernote” →

Gear Talk – Ring light on a budget

On this blog I also want to talk about the gear I use. Typically a ring light is not something needed for Street Photography. But besides my focus areas of Street / Urban / Travel I also do some portrait shooting for family and friends.

For her upcoming high school graduation ceremony my daughter was asking for some portraits all dressed up. For that occasion I decided to look for a ring flash to evenly light the face of the model and get some nice round catch lights in the eyes.

After  looking around on the web I decided on a real budget solution that still should provide great results. Instead of investing in a real ring flash (and here you talk really big bucks) I found an attachable round light softbox with a donut shaped form that can be attached to the on camera speed light and lens.

StoNur on the Road – Blood Mountains

Sorry for not posting the last couple of days, I still need to get used to the concept of blogging while travelling.

I’ve spend the last couple of days in the Dolomites Mountains of Northern Italy. A zone called the “Blood Mountains” after the fierce mountain warfare that took place between Austrian Imperial Troops (Kaiserjäger) and Italian mountaineers (Alpini) during World War  I between May 1915 and November 1918. Apocalyptic Fountain

After a business meeting in Munich yesterday I had a half hour left before my train departed back to Nuremberg. Close to Munich’s Central Station is the Karlsplatz or “Stachus” as it is called by the locals, a huge square with a big fountain on it. Red Rush

Taken this morning in Nuremberg’s central station in the walkway below the tracks. I saw this girl with the amazing red colored hair coming my way from the opposite end of the tunnel. And I knew I had to somehow take her picture. Getting the Ricoh out the backpack was no option, so my iPhone had to do. Processed in phone with VSCO G2 preset.

Let the Games begin !

Yesterday the UEFA EURO 2016 has started with the opening match of host France vs. Romania, with the French team winning on a last minute goal. I watched parts of the first half on a muted TV in an airline club at DFW airport, when the game was decided in the second half I was already in the air on my way back to Germany.

I have to admit the last weeks were kind of busy, and I completely ignored the media frenzy leading up the tournament. And even the opening match didn’t yet generate any emotions regarding this years soccer summer madness.  Continue reading “Let the Games begin !” →

The End of an Era

Today is a very emotional day for me. My Big Girl is having her last real day of school today, finishing 12 years of initial education with her last oral exam in Geography. I’m endlessly proud of her.

Partly it is emotional because I’m not home to bid her farewell and good luck for the last test this morning, because I had to leave the house early at 4:30 to catch a flight to Dallas where I’ll be spending the rest of the week on business.

But it is also emotional for me because I can vividly recall my feelings on my very last day of Highschool some 29 years ago. Continue reading “The End of an Era” →

Another one from the motion blurred series of cyclists I took on the Pegnitz bikeway near Nuremberg’s Halletor, opposite from the “Schnepperschütz” Bar. Taken with the Olympus PEN-F with the mZuiko 17mm. Shot was taken with 1/13 sec @ f/7.1 and ISO200 with the Monochrome 2 profile of the PEN (jpg out of camera).
