Hanging in there

Little boy with a balloon hanging head down over a fountain wall.

My best shot from an afternoon outing on what was supposed to be the last really warm and sunny Sunday this year. I have no idea what the boy was doing half inside in the fountain, but I thought it looked hilarious.

Taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4. Image specs 1/200 sec @ f/4 and ISO 200 and 100mm focal length.

If you still want to go out shooting today and are looking or tips and inspirations, check out my free Learning Center.

Hope you had a great Sunday as well!

Guiding Light

Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast under the night sky
1 sec | f/1.2 | ISO 400 | 17mm

Throwing another image of the Heceta Head Lighthouse (see yesterday’s post with the photographs from below and across here) at you doesn’t really do justice to the splendid day I spent yesterday on the Oregon coast. I enjoyed sunshine, pristine beaches, colorful towns and saw about twenty Grey Whales from the shore.

Highlight of my week

Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast at dusk
1/10 sec | f/4 | ISO 200 | 75mm

It was a long trip from Nuremberg across the big ocean to Portland earlier this week. A total of 27 hours travel time. Followed by two days of intense work. But I treated myself to weekend trip to the Oregon Coast, leaving the office in time to arrive for sunset at the Heceta Head Lighthouse near Yachats.

OM-D E-M1X High Res Shot

Nuremberg Old Town and Pegnitz River
Riverside | Nuremberg | 2019

One of the great features of my new Olympus OM-D E-M1X is the ability to use sensor shift technology to increase the image resolution by combining multiple shots. This function is called High Resolution Photo (also referred to as High Res Shot or HRS). The camera takes 8 (in handheld mode 16) consecutive images and moves the sensor by half a pixel between each shot. The 8 pictures are then composited to create the final output. The resolution is 80MP for RAW and 50MP for JPG (when using a tripod) or 50MP for both RAW and JPG when shooting handheld.

Nuremberg Subway Instawalk (2)

Motion blur view of a passenger descending into a subway station in Nuremberg
2,5 sec – f/22 – ISO 200 – 12mm

As promised, this is the second set of images that I took during an Instawalk through the Nuremberg subway system (read part 1 here). Thanks to Igers Nürnberg and VGN for making it possible. We were allowed to bring tripods, and did shooting in stations and out of the front window of our driverless subway while traveling between stations.

Nuremberg Subway Instawalk (1)

Motion blur view of Nuremberg subway with waiting passengers
1/4 sec – f/7.1 – ISO 200 – 15mm

A few weeks ago I did join another Instawalk organized by the admins of the Nuremberg Instagram community. This time a group of local Instagramers with their cameras and tripods toured through the Nuremberg subway system. We were properly authorized with photo permits (thanks VGN for making it possible), because normally underground photography is strictly prohibited.

Up in the air

Two girls laying on the ground with their legs up in the air
Up in the Air | Chicago | 2019

When have you juggled yourself in the air lately? Isn’t this a perfect fitness program to get yourself into shape for for those upcoming beach days?

A fun part about street photography is playing with perspective. Like in this image from Chicago’s Millennium Park. Taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and the mZuiko 12-100 f/4. Image specs 1/200 sec @ f/4 and ISO 200, 75mm foval length.

Wish you a great start into the week!

In a rush

Monitor blurred man walking in a colorful Nuremberg subway station
0.4sec – f/11 – ISO200 – 100mm

Life is really in overdrive these days, with the job that pays the bills clearly in the drivers seat. The little free time I have is filled with post-production work of the various photo-shooting specials I’ve squeezed in the last weeks. And I have another busy weekend ahead, before heading once more across the pond coming Monday for a short trip to Chicago. And then I’m looking forward crossing the finish line for a long (and free) Easter weekend. Until then my life will really be in a rush.
