Sure there was some “Angst” right before pushing the button to activate the new blog theme (Baskerville 2). I did some testing and experimenting using the new theme’s live preview in the WordPress customization area. When I was happy I went live, hoping that all my blog contents created during the past three years would still be there. It was. This morning I had a chat with the WordPress support to obtain some custom CSS code for viewing platform specific dynamic sizing of my logo that sits on top of whatever header image I desire to feature. I got the code after ten minutes, and it looks ok to me. Also, with the switch to the new (officially supported) theme, it looks like the broken functions are fixed again. The search works. The sun came out today. Just in time to lighten up The Significant Other’s birthday. It seems everyone is out in the Streets of Nuremberg to catch some warming rays and anticipate the coming spring. Only the forecast calls once more for dropping temperatures and snow. Flying out to the Pacific Northwest on Monday I had hoped to escape the return of winter, but it seems the weather in Portland will be even worse in the next ten days. On the second Sunday in May, most countries around the world celebrate Mother’s Day. And at least here in Nuremberg it started as a marvelous sunny spring day!
So for my Mom and all other Moms out there: This rose is for you!
Together with the Significant Other I headed into town yesterday, where we seemingly met the rest of Nuremberg’s population, as everybody was drawn out to just a touch of spring, with the sun shining from a spotless sky and temperatures hitting almost double digits. And everyone was trying to find her or his spot in the sun.

I brought the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4 for some snapshots of the sun seekers. Oh, and just for the case I haven’t mentioned it yet on this photography blog (I know I have numerous time), don’t forget to check your camera settings before you start shooting, they might be way off from your last photographic outing.
Stupid me shot the whole afternoon with ISO 3200, which was still dialed in from me shooting the inflight Polar Lights during my return flight from Portland last weekend. No I was lucky, because the OM-D handles noise quite well and there is no issue of having a grainy look on street photographs. Best is we all put a piece of paper in your camera bags with the text “check your settings”….or better make it a habit to reset them after every outing with your camera.
So far it was a good weekend, with the beautiful sunny Saturday. The daughter of a very good friend married yesterday, and at least they got very decent weather for their special day, after a mostly grey and cold week. Also this morning looks promising, the sun is shining, the sky is blue, although temperatures are still way below freezing. But I hope again for the afternoon, and coffee and cake in the sun. And some more photography with the correct ISO 😉

For Day 9 of Cassia’s 10 Day Photography Challenge with the topic “Something Purple” I put my Lensbaby back to work, snapping this shot of purple tulips. I hope this is purple, I really have a hard time differentiating between the shades of purple and pink. Not color blind, but at least handicapped, but only for those two colors 😉
I used my Lensbaby Trio 28mm f/3.5 lens, that has a rotating head so I get three Lensbaby effects in one lens: Twist, Velvet and Sweet. It is a manual lens, so focussing on the PEN-F is via the LCD screen and with the help of the focus peaking of the Olympus camera, where the sharp pane is indicated by flickering dots.

Happy Mayday from the Streets of Nuremberg! I’m really enjoying downtime with the family on this long weekend, as the first day of May is a public holiday in Germany. To kick off the new month photographically, I’ll take you on a small hike around the village of Oberhembach, just a few kilometers away from where we live. This is the prefect time of the year to just wander around and enjoy the springtime landscape, the fresh green around the little ponds outside the villages, the cherry and apple blossoms on the trees next to the half timbered farm houses, the chirping of the birds in the large pine forests that are spreading out around Nuremberg. I need to do my Oregonian friends justice. They say there is sunshine in the PNW. And they are right. Here is the proof! This evening I returned from a 12 day trip to Portland. There was one truly beautiful day with sunshine throughout during these 12 days, which was last Friday. This was also when I took this photo of Mount Hood on my way from the office to the hotel. It rained all other days.
But the weather forecast for the weekend and the coming week calls for warm and fair weather in Rose City. Everybody should enjoy it. Because maybe I’m the one bringing (for sure unintentionally) all that rain. And I will be back the week after next ;-). But meanwhile I will enjoy time with the family and on the Streets of Nuremberg.
Photo was taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 with the mZuiko 40-150mm F/2.8 Pro Zoom. Specs are 1/400 sec @ f/11 and ISO200 , focal length was 150mm (equals 300mm in full frame), so I shot at the far end of my zoom. The edge to edge sharpness of this piece of glass is amazing.
