10 Day Photography Challenge – Day 2

Red Star Rising

Red Star Rising | Amsterdam | 2018

We are on to Day 2 of Cassia Denner’s 10 Day Photography Challenge, with today’s theme being “Something Red”. Well, technically my entry is multicolored, but when walking up to this bar scene I knew I had to get that shot of the bright red star on the green wall while connecting through Amsterdam Shiphol the day before yesterday, already with the challenge topic “red” in mind.

This is one of the examples where everything comes together, colors (green and red are complimentary, sitting on opposite sides of the color wheel) and a multi element composition (rule of thirds, leading lines, and you could argue to see a Fibonacci spiral from the black star to the wall red star to the counter top red star curving on the bottom up to the guest sitting leaning over to the bar top).

Image specs are 140 sec @ f/2,8 and ISO 200, shot in P-Mode with my Ricoh GR II.

Today at 1:20 pm my flight back to Amsterdam and eventually Nuremberg takes to the sky again, after exactly 50 hours on the ground in the Rose City. I should be back home in time for a late Saturday breakfast.

I wish you all a great Friday!

Marcus

Airport Rush

Catch the Plane | Amsterdam | 2017

After all,  I slept three full nights in my own bed before heading westward across the big ocean once more,  for about the gazillionth time this year. Sometimes I wonder what the constant exposure to high altitude radiation will do to my body. Today’s trip is Nuremberg – Amsterdam (where I am now)  – Chicago. Instead of my usual Delta flight I’m on a KLM flight with the hope to find some new inflight movies that I haven’t seen yet (which is almost impossible) and a new menu (Delta changes it’s food offerings only once every three months, so honestly I can’t see that stuff any more).

I absolutely love Chicago, the perfect city to combine street- and architectural photography, but this trip is business only and I won’t even make it downtown during my roughly 30 hours on the ground. In an office park near O’Hare airport  I will meet my peers from other international corporations for our annual round table get together, and I’m really looking forward to this meeting. Tomorrow night I will continue on to Portland for a full week of regular project work, before flying back home in time for the last October weekend (and hopefully a week off).  After the jump you can see a few shots I took while being bored during my air travel, there is always an opportunity for some photography 😉 … (more…)

Schiphol Street Photography

On the road again towards Portland. Well, I should rather say in the skies again, as I’m currently somewhere above Canada on my Delta flight from AMS to PDX. As usual I used the layover in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport for some Street Photography in the Terminal. To see what I captured during this connection continue reading after the jump…

Travel Day (4)

Dawn

Travel Day again, heading westward for another week of work in Portland, Oregon. Took the early bird 6:15 KLM flight from Nuremberg to Amsterdam, where I had enough layover to do some shooting in the terminal before continuing on a non-stop Delta flight to Portland’s PDX airport. To join me for for a stroll through Schiphol Airport and for a sky view of the Shetland Islands continue reading after the jump…

StarStruck | Amsterdam | 2017

My first international travel of the year at least brought the opportunity of doing some photography while connecting through Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, on my way to Portland, Oregon.  As you know from previous episodes of my series “Street? Airport!”, airports buzzing with travelers provide some awesome opportunities for some quick street shooting while passing through the terminals enroute to the gate. For another shot from this bar and some “bonus” aerial views from my Delta flight from AMS to PDX continue reading after the jump….
