Call me

Call me, one gentleman seems to tell another with a universal gesture
Call me | Portland | 2019

Visiting my archives looking for a particular image from my time in the PNW, I stumbled upon this street photo I took during a weekend stroll through the Pearl District of the Rose City. Titled “Call me”, it is one of my favorite street shots from that year. Originally in color and portrait orientation, I decided to convert it to B&W, crop in and turning it to a landscape aspect ratio.

Doesn’t it look like a scene straight out of Francis Ford Coppola movie? Two sharply dressed men meet in on a quiet city street. The younger man, holding a vape and signaling a phone call, looking nervous. The older man, calm and steady with a cane, listening closely, his eyes hidden behind dark glasses. Whatever they discussed, it was serious—like something best kept off the record. The photograph certainly has a kind of cinematic look. To this day I wonder what those gentlemen were discussing. The gesture is clear, isn’t it? One of those fascinating stories of the streets that wait to be captured by the passing street photographer.

Taken with my Olympus E-M1 and the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4 pro zoom. Image specs 1/200 sec @ f/4, ISO 250 and 172mm focal length in full frame equivalent. Post-processing in Lightroom Classic.

Have a great Sunday

There was clear joy for those two girls, when they saw their grand dad coming around the corner. A candid street snapshot taken at the iconic Mont Saint Michele in Brittany, France. Hello again, maybe that’s what the delighted man said when he had the girls jumping at him. Hello again is for me to say after our vacation trip to Brittany. Stay tuned for some posts about this magnificent region in Northwestern France.

Have a great Monday

Asinello

Asinello
Asinello | Genoa | 2024

After posting all those landscape and nature images, it is about time to get back to some Street Photography, which is still the main theme of this blog. I just love this simple shot I took the other week in Genoa‘s Old Town. Young people queuing after midnight in front of one of La Superba’s most famous “watering holes”, the “Bar degli Asinelli” in Via Canneto il Lungo, enjoying a mild spring night out. Asinello means donkey in Italian, hence the animal on the sign of the bar. But Asinello is also the local liqueur with vermouth, cinchona bark, rhubarb and gentian. Behind the bar, the two legendary owners Adriano and La Marchesa welcome you in an ambience of days gone by, between mirrors and furniture from the sixties.

The image was taken with my iPhone 14 Pro, jpg out of camera.

Believe | Brooklyn | 2023

To believe in what you do should give you a clear direction to pursue your dreams. Smoking weed, though, might just leave you circling the parking lot wondering where you parked your ambition 😉

It seems this Brooklyn weed shop seems to take it with humor….a street shot captured the other week with my iPhone during a short father/son trip to the Big Apple.

Have a great Tuesday!

Say Boo

Seeing Ghosts
Say Boo

Are you ready for the creepiest night of the year? Ready to give anyone ringing at your door for some trick or treating a good scare? Say Boo!

Unlike last year’s Halloween, when we enjoyed a late night ghost tour through Genoa’s historic center, we’ll most likely spend the evening at home. Maybe I can convince The Significant Other to watch a good horror movie. Knowing her for the good part of 37 years, there is not much chance of success 😉

Click below if you are in the mood for some visual halloween treats I’ve captured over the past years.
