But when tonight The Significant Other, myself and good friends went for dinner in a restaurant at Theresienplatz in Nuremberg’s Old Town, I took some pictures of the monument of Martin Behaim, and coming home, I thought I share his story with you.

Last week, the first snow has graced the Streets of Nuremberg , a first sign that winter is here. Not that it stayed very long, gone quickly after a rain storm – we will be back to 12 degrees celsius next week, probably able to sit at those tables again. But it helped getting into the right winter mood. Five more work days until a nice long break well into the new year.
I took the photograph of the historic Tiergärtnertorplatz (with the famous Albrecht Dürer’s House in the center) in Old Town Nuremberg with my Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the fabulous 12-100mm F/4 allround zoom. I had to use a tripod to be able to shoot at f/11 and ISO 200, resulting in a five second shutter speed. RAW conversion and post processing in Lightroom Classic.
I’ll be using this weekend for some gear cleaning and checking for new firmware for my Olympus camera bodies and lenses. Both is needed once in a while and should not be neglected.

Winter on the Streets of Nuremberg
When Friday night the wheels of my KLM flight from Manchester via Amsterdam back to Nuremberg kissed the asphalt of the runway of my hometown’s airport, another crazy work week came to an end. And, fingers crossed, this should have been the last air travel of this year. Coincidentally, Friday night this year’s Christmas season kicked off with the grand opening of Nuremberg’s famous Christkindlesmarkt. While I arrived much too late to make it to the opening ceremony last night, this evening I grabbed my camera and the Significant Other and headed to one of the many local Christmas markets for our start into the Season of Lights.

Färdder Kärwa – a difficult term for my English speaking readers. It is the local name of the Michaeliskirchweih in Nuremberg’s neighboring city of Fürth, a city fair that annually starts on the Saturday following the name day of Archangel Michael, typically at the end of September. A great opportunity to head over to Fürth and take my 17 and 25mm F/1.2 prime lenses for a nightly spin….

My best shot from an afternoon outing on what was supposed to be the last really warm and sunny Sunday this year. I have no idea what the boy was doing half inside in the fountain, but I thought it looked hilarious.

After a truly nice long Easter weekend and great times with friends and Family it is back to work, but at least on a short week. I took this photograph during my recent subway photo walk with the Nuremberg Instagramers (detailed post is coming up). I experimented with long shutter speeds to capture the motion in the passengers exiting the train. One second proved to be the best choice, as I got interesting effects from the moving people while retaining clarity and texture in their bodies. Also, the one second handheld exposure allowed me to capture a sharp train as background. The diagonal lines, the layered people and the motion blur effects add compositional interest and depth, making this image work. Taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X and the mZuiko 12-100mm F/4.

Sure there was some “Angst” right before pushing the button to activate the new blog theme (Baskerville 2). I did some testing and experimenting using the new theme’s live preview in the WordPress customization area. When I was happy I went live, hoping that all my blog contents created during the past three years would still be there. It was. This morning I had a chat with the WordPress support to obtain some custom CSS code for viewing platform specific dynamic sizing of my logo that sits on top of whatever header image I desire to feature. I got the code after ten minutes, and it looks ok to me. Also, with the switch to the new (officially supported) theme, it looks like the broken functions are fixed again. The search works. Before Travel Day (to Portland) comes Match Day (in Munich). A very good friend got us tickets to the Bundesliga soccer match between FC Bayern München and Schalke 04 in Munich’s Allianz Arena. This awesome, sci-fi like stadium is just a 70 minute drive south from our house. The sun came out today. Just in time to lighten up The Significant Other’s birthday. It seems everyone is out in the Streets of Nuremberg to catch some warming rays and anticipate the coming spring. Only the forecast calls once more for dropping temperatures and snow. Flying out to the Pacific Northwest on Monday I had hoped to escape the return of winter, but it seems the weather in Portland will be even worse in the next ten days.
