My photographic journey through 2019 (4)

Of course travel photography has played a major for me also in 2019. While the trips for the job that pays the bills have been significantly reduced from 2018, I still had the opportunity for some travels to my beloved Pacific Northwest, and I added a trip to Udaipur, India, late in the year. Private trips had The Significant Other and myself travel, among other short visits to our neighboring countries, to Estonia, Italy and Jordan. And we had our usual share of trips around Germany. So here are a few of my fav travel images from 2019….

2019 has been the year where I started doing commissioned photography work. That’s why part 3 of my five part series looking back at my photographic journey through 2019 features images from my first official stint as wedding photographer, my first fashion shooting plus some more people shots.

Sandy Feet

2019 is slowly but steady coming to a close, and I’m using the downtime of the holidays to go through my Lightroom catalogue from 2019 and reflect on my photographic journey through the past year. I have divided the images into 5 categories: street, travel, people & events, shots from my hometown Nuremberg and, for everything that didn’t fit into any of the above, a category called objects. And that’s the one I’m gonna start with today.

Jordan explored – Petra by Night

Al-Khazneh - the Treasury - in ancient Petra, Jordan, illuminated at night.

One of the most memorable experiences of our recent trip to Jordan was experiencing Petra, the ancient capital of the Nabataean Empire, by night. On three evenings per week, visitors can take the one mile passage through the narrow gorge known as Siq down to the legendary Al-Khazneh (Pharao’s Treasury), with the walkway being illuminated by six thousand candles.

Shoot in P-Mode and be prepared

Resisting Donkeys

Sometimes you have to be quick. Street scenes are there for a second, then gone forever. No time to fiddle with camera settings. My advice for you: Shoot in P-Mode, when your are not deliberately photographing a certain subject and have ample time to adjust composition and settings.

Jordan explored – Petra

Al Khazneh – The Treasury

Petra was in ancient times the capital of the Nabataean Empire. Because of its monumental tomb temples, whose facades were carved directly from the rock, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1985. It was always a dream for The Significant Other and myself to visit Petra and see the magic of Al Khazneh with our own eyes. Now we finally had the opportunity to put a big checkmark on our bucket list.

Jordan Sneak Peek

Al-Khazneh - the Treasury - in ancient Petra, Jordan
Treasury | Petra | 2019

It’s been a busy day at the job that pays the bills. So just a quick sneak peek post today about our visit to the ancient Nabataean city of Petra. We visited this magic place not only during the day, but also walked the mile long narrow canyon to legendary Al-Khazneh, the Treasury, when it was candle lit at night. Full post coming up on the weekend.

Wish you a great Tuesday!

Färdder Kärwa – a difficult term for my English speaking readers. It is the local name of the Michaeliskirchweih in Nuremberg’s neighboring city of FĂĽrth, a city fair that annually starts on the Saturday following the name day of Archangel Michael, typically at the end of September. A great opportunity to head over to FĂĽrth and take my 17 and 25mm F/1.2 prime lenses for a nightly spin….

October 3rd is our National Holiday here in Germany. A perfect opportunity to take The Significant Other and my newly acquired (used – of course) “Nifty Fifty” for a walk into the autumnal landscape outside Nuremberg.

Fire in the Sky

Fireworks at Berlin Pyronale

It was a magic night under the fire in the sky. Last night we watched the fireworks competition of the 2019 Pyronale on the Maifeld at the steps of Berlin’s Olympic Stadium. And I took my PEN-F and tried to capture some of its splendor.
