Happy New Year from the Streets of Nuremberg
Goodbye 2021
The last day of the year is upon us. Goodbye 2021! The Significant Other, Big Girl, two dear friends and myself spent the day hiking in the Austrian Alps in the Weißpriach Valley along the Lonka River. Enjoying a marvelous day. Walking along the mountain river has something cleansing to it. Washing 2021 away, looking forward to a brighter new year.

Happy Halloween!
Tonight is “All Hallow’s Eve”, the eve before the religious feast All Saints (aka All Hallow’s Day), remembering the dead, saints and martyrs of christianity. Many of the traditions of Halloween are believed to originate in ancient Celtic harvest festivals and pagan traditions. It was mainly Irish immigrants to the USA who brought along the many more secular traditions like trick-or-treating, Halloween costume parties, carving pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns and lighting bonfires. In Europe, All Saints was mainly celebrated in the religious sense (remembering the dead, lighting candles at their graves). Only in the last ten years the more “American” way of celebrating Halloween became more popular into what is now a big commercial business for retail.
This year, we in Frankonia are blessed with a colorful and sunny last October weekend. And with this image of an enchanted haunted house in a forest near Nuremberg I wish you a very happy halloween!

Another weekend – another photo exhibition
Another weekend – another photo exhibition (have you read my post from the SteveMcCurry exhibition?). This time we were a bit more south. The Significant Other and I spent the weekend in (our former hometown) Genoa on the Ligurian coast to visit a dear friend. And, as things go, there was another exhibition in town – “L’Italia di Magnum”. Another opportunity to see great photography and do some street shooting inside the exhibition.

As written in my last post, The Significant Other and I spent last weekend in Zurich. We used the occasion to visit the exhibition “The world of Steve McCurry” in the Maag Halle. Those of you who have the opportunity to see this exhibition, either in Zurich or elsewhere, go! All others can join me for a quick glimpse of this awesome presentation of McCurry’s work and see some colors in the dark.

Life’s been wild lately, not only for us, but also for the rest of the world. “Looking at you” I dubbed this shot of The Significant Other looking at a Steve McCurry portrait of an Afghan mujahideen. The world famous documentary photographer, known for his intense portraits, took this image in Afghanistan back in 1979. We are in Zurich for the weekend and took the opportunity to visit the Steve McCurry exhibition that’s currently on display at the Maaghalle. Over the years, McCurry has been multiple times to Afghanistan, and some of his most iconic images are from there. On display at the exhibition, they now emit a strange sense of actuality, given the current sad events.
You know I like to shoot street photography in exhibitions and museums, and this beautiful curated and presented display of McCurry’s work provided an awesome background. For tonight I leave you with this initial image and get now busy with more editing from this afternoon’s photographic outing.

One of the greatest was Agamemnon, the king of Mycenae and victor of the Trojan war. “Greece explored – Mycenae” takes you on a trip through his legendary castle on Argolian hills of the Peloponnese.

I’m much too busy taking photographs and vacationing (as in being down at our private beach) than downloading and editing what I already captured on the SD cards during our stay in Greece. Or writing blog articles. But when I saw this one of The Significant Other I couldn’t hesitate throwing out a quick Sunday post after all. Classic Beauty is all that comes to my mind, as she stands in front of the ancient temple of Apollo in Corinth. Can anyone understand why this beautiful woman always gets a panic attack when I point a camera at her?
Taken with the Leica M and the Summicron 35mm F/2. I was really pushing the settings here, did already consider putting an ND filter on the camera to block out some of the light. But with a fast 1/4000 shutter speed and slightly stopping down to f/4 I still got the shot in the bright afternoon light with shallow enough depth of field to blur the background, but still have the 2500 year old temple clearly recognizable.

Sure enough our vacation in Greece offers some opportunity at street photography. We spent the morning of last Saturday at the market in Argos, the town nearest to our holiday getaway. I brought along the Leica M (Type 240) with the Summicron 50mm F/2. Here are a couple shots from that outing.
