Faces of the Street

Yesterday, The Significant Other and I visited the fantastic exhibition of dutch painter Anton van Dyck in Genoa’s Palazzo Ducale. After, we went for some errands in Via XX Settembre. And while the wife went into a clothing store, I stood under the arcades of La Superba’s principal shopping mile, snapping away at the passing faces of the street. I used my Fuji X-T50 and the Fujinon Super EBC XC 1:2.8-4.8/16-50mm R LM WR. And what can I say, the tiny camera/lens combo basically went unnoticed by the passing people. I hope you enjoyed those glimpses into random Italian street life. I thoroughly enjoyed myself (as did The Significant Other doing her shopping). The camera was set to aperture priority (basically I was using f/6.4 or f/7.1) and AUTO ISO 6400 with an assigned minimum shutter speed 1/500 sec. ACROS film simulation. Jpgs out of camera, no post-processing aside from some cropping. The beauty of the 40,2 MP sensor of the APS-C camera is that it not only renders beautifully, but also leaves plenty room for cropping with its image size of 7728 x 5152 pixels.

  1. Excellent street photography, Marcus, I love your photography! Sneaky you are. I see many people from many age groups enjoying the technology of the phones. Cute dogs!

  2. So many phones, so little smiles. I like the second photo–the look that lady is given the young man next to her…!

  3. Excellent images Marcus. My favorite is the lady talking on the phone that looks like a retro rangefinder camera 📷. In NYC I snap away with my camera at eye level but when I want to be a sneaky street shooter I will leave my camera on a cafe or pub table that I am sitting at and use the Fuji remote app on my iPhone to control my camera. People have no idea I am photographing them they just think I’m scrolling through my phone. Some people say they have trouble connecting to the app but I don’t seem to have a problem.

    1. Thanks Joe, also for sharing your approach. I had the cam dangling from the neck positioned on my belly. Wide angle focal length, f/7 and shooting in the general direction. Only few noticed I was pressing the shutter.
