Light at the end of the tunnel

There is light at the end of the tunnel. Far in the distance, barely visible. Pessimists might even argue that, in all likelihood, it is the headlamp of an oncoming train. Well, Murphy’s law won’t happen in this tunnel. While indeed being an old railroad tunnel at the Ligurian coast, nowadays it belongs to bikers and hikers. So why I’m musing about a light at the end of a tunnel in Italy that, due to Covid restrictions in Europe, can’t even be reached these days from Germany?

Because April fools day 2021 gave me reason to hope that there is indeed, finally, a little light at the end of this pandemic tunnel. Today I got my first Covid vaccination. And it came as a surprise as only yesterday afternoon I got the text message informing me that I can finally schedule an appointment at our local vaccination center. I took the first available slot. And so this April fools day morning at 8am I got treated to a first dose of the Pfizer/BioN-Tech vaccine. Apart from sore arm muscles I feel totally fine. And I’m a happy camper! Now I have to wait six weeks for my second shot. Add another week for the full immunization to take effect, around May 20th I should be able to kiss those viral buggers goodbye for a while.

The photo was taken with the Olympus PEN-F and the 12-100mm F/4. Image specs 1/4 sec @ f/7.1 and ISO 1600. While in yesterdays post I advised on using Auto-ISO to ensure faster shutter speeds to freeze the action in low light, in this shot I purposely dialed in a slow 1/4 sec to intentionally motion blur the passing cyclists to emphasize their intention to reach the light at the end of the tunnel.

Have a great Thursday and stay safe!

Marcus

  1. Happy that you were able to get your first vaccine shot. My husband went to get his yesterday as well but was turned away because they were concerned about the medications he’s on. They felt that they would interfere with the effectiveness of vaccine to do its job. Now he has to get a note of his doctors to say he can get it. He may have to take a medication vacation for awhile. Scary thought. There is, however, a light at the end of the tunnel. I get my shot in 10 days.

  2. Congrats Marcus! That light is becoming more and more visible. Here in Singapore we are in the 45 to 59 years old tier already, soon it will be my turn. 🙂

  3. Congratulations and great shot and theory as always. Stat safe my friend, and I do hope that indeed there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Hugs 🤗

  4. Congrats on your first dose, Marcus. There is hope! My second dose is scheduled for April 22nd. Be safe my friend. 😎

      1. I sure will, Marcus, I’m still in hibernation mode. After the second vaccine, I will still wear the mask and use hand sanitiser as usual, let’s be smart, not drop our gurad regardless. 🙏🏻

  5. Great blog and congrats on the vaccine. I had my first one last month and makes so much difference. Good luck.
