Waves

Long exposure Ocean Waves
Lido di Camaiore | Italy | 2024

When live gives you lemons…make lemonade. If the sunny weather forecasted for an afternoon spent at Lido di Camaiore in Tuscany turns out to be rather dull, use the bad light for some long exposure photography of the incoming waves. All these shots were taken with 1/8 sec exposure speed, perfect for these kind of images. I didn’t carry any ND filters in my bag, which would have been necessary to reduce the incoming light enough to (combined with closing down the aperture and lowering the ISO) get to 1/8 sec on a bright afternoon. So using the bad and rather dark light as my natural grey filter helped me to play with shapes and textures of the waves….click below for a few more images.

As said, shutter speed was 1/8 sec for all four images. ISO was 200 for the first two and 800 for the two last photographs taken during the blue hour. Aperture was 11 for the former and 4 for the latter ones. So even if the sun did not show up as promised, I still had fun at the beach. Weather wise, this week spent in our Home (South) in Genoa was generally quite disappointing, apart from a beautiful Sunday one the last weekend. But we’ll anyway head back to Germany tonight to spend Easter with the family.

All photographs were taken with my Fuji X-T2 and the Fujinon 18-55mm 1:2.8-4. Some post processing in Lightroom Classic.

  2. Dreamy is the word that comes to mind with these photos, Marcus. Beautiful and dreamy. I can’t wait for a grey day here in Florida, so I can try my hand. Happy Easter to you.

  3. The photos of waves are amazing and very creative. And I really like the way you played with the colors and wave patterns. Happy blessed Easter to you and your family, Marcus!
