Visual Push-Ups for January 18, 2025

Finally weekend! Fighting a little cold, I took it easy all day. But late afternoon, I felt an itch to go outside. And do some photography. So I grabbed my camera and went for a little walk into the woods around our house. And do my visual push-ups for January 18, 2025 . Click below to join me on my little photographic exercise…..

Doing my daily visual push-ups is nothing spectacular. Just doing some causal photography. Capturing what captures my eye. Looking for compository elements like leading lines.

In the above image, the shape of the moss-covered tree growing out of the heather plants caught my eye. I love just casually strolling along the forest paths and looking for things to capture. Something unusual. Like this birch tree with a fabric ribbon tied around.

Trying to capture a sunburst is also always high on my list. And I just loved the late afternoon light falling through the trees. And the way how the camera’s sensor rendered the soft golden rays on the forest floor. Then I found some mushrooms that somehow survived the winter, forming a little natural still life. Sometimes it’s the little things that tell a story.

The light in the scenes above and below was just too gorgeous to not try to capture it in camera. Once again, the sensor did a fabulous job rendering light and colors in a way that I was totally happy with the replication of what I saw during my walk.

patterned woods

Capturing patterns and textures is also something always suitable for visual push-ups, like these round white lichens on the trunks of the young beech trees.

Forest sunset makes trees glow golden

The last part of my walk through the woods behind our house always leads directly into the settings sun. And if you are out in the nature at the right time. you can see the gold of the low sun lighting up the trees with a golden backlight. And then, out of the woods, the trail is a perfect leading line into the setting sun and back to our village.

I was quite happy with the results from my visual push-ups for January 18, 2025. It felt good to be out and about, if only for a small stroll. And get those creative juices flowing. I hope you enjoyed that little nature photography walk as well. All images taken with a Nikon Zf and a Nikkor 14-200mm 1:4-6.3 VR. RAW conversion and some post-processing in Lightroom Classic.

      1. 100% true, Marcus! I’m in Florida now with my sister, we are preparing our parents home for sale since dad passed last July. Not a holiday trip. Heading home to Vegas in four days! Happy weekend!
