The days of our trip to Israel are filled with sightseeing, stressful things like lying on the beach and evening activities like dining and a enjoying some after dinner drinks with our friends we’re travelling with. At least I find time to dump the days images onto the computer, but not enough time to edit and post process. So I’m seriously behind creating new episodes of “Isreal Explored”. But no worries, they will be published eventually 😉
When my Leica failed me on day 3 of our trip, I basically turned exclusively to my iPhone 12 Pro Max to capture the sights and sounds of this beautiful country. When looking at some of my street photography shots from today, I seriously ask myself why I need a camera…these images are a mix of action shots, closeups, wide angle images, photos in bright daylight, at sunset, after sunset and at night. Shooting into the sun and with it…the iPhone handled them all pretty well, I would say. Camera? iPhone! But see for yourself…..there are more images after the jump….

All these images were taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. All of them are straight out of the iPhone. No Lightroom involved. Camera? iPhone!

I’ll say it again and again, the camera is just a tool. It’s up to the photographer with an eye for images, a good understanding of exposure and knowing the limitations of their gear. Wonderful set of images.
Thanks, Steven, your kind words mean so much! Marcus
The phone offers something that cameras don’t. Compactness! Often, in social situations phone is the only thing we can captures pictures with and most smartphone these days churn out pictures worthy enough to share online.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Arv! And so true!
I hear you my photography friend, about I phone images. Eventually it’s your eye that captures a great image……………Enjoy your trip , Israel is an amazing country and as well their people.

Fabulous photos Marcus. The IPhone cameras really are impressive. All my magazine article photos are taken with an IPhone too. Keep enjoying! It looks amazing.

Spectacular images, Marcus.
Really love the frisbee dog.
Thanks, Allan, so much appreciated! It amazed me to capture an image like this with an iPhone.
Maybe the biggest lesson is about being flexible – and it’s obvious that you are! The iPhone really excels at things like the first shot, which is just fantastic. I’m continually surprised by how well it handles different exposure scenarios, from bright sunlight to evening to indoors, which you show here. I think I’d be tempted to get my money back for the Leica after what you went through, and spend it on another vacation! 😉
Thanks for your comment, Lynn, so much appreciated! I totally love this dog image. Today I brought the Leica back to the shop to get it fixed and to convey my disappointment about their handling of the matter. Not sure if I will keep the cam….
Life well observed with an iPhone!
Thanks, Sue, much appreciated!

We sure did. Now back in Germany. Israel was fantastic!
The best camera in the world is always the one you have in your hand, even when it’s a phone. Superb images. Your frisbee dog photo is extraordinary!

Really great shots! It just goes to show, it’s not the camera, it’s the photographer.
Thanks, Stuart, appreciate your kind words! Marcus
Wow Marcus, if I hadn’t know, I would say that these photos came from big-dollar camera! I have the same device, it takes some fabulous photos but it’s one fault is in extreme zoom shots. Those photos tend to pixelate really bad. I look forward to your next set of photos! These are beautiful photos!
Thanks for your kind words, John, so much appreciated! I use only the optical zoom at 2.5 magnification, never the digital zoom, as the images are not really usable.
